A Hero for WondLa
At last, I can reveal the title of the second book in the WondLa trilogy: A Hero for WondLa. Here is the official summary from the publisher:
“Finally, Eva Nine has gotten what she has always wanted: other humans. When she and her friends are rescued by Hailey, another human, Eva couldn’t be happier. Now she has everything she has ever dreamed of. Hailey brings Eva and her friends to the human colony New Attica, where humans of all shapes and sizes live in apparent peace and harmony.
But all is not idyllic in New Attica, and soon Eva Nine and her friends realize that something very bad is going on–and if they don’t stop it, it could mean the end of everything and everyone on Orbona.”
I am busy finalizing the artwork for the jacket (which I hope to unveil soon), then its back to rewrites before I begin the interior illustrations. I’ve had my beta-readers go through the first draft and I am happy to report that all felt the second book amped up the action while remaining emotionally satisfying. Yay!
Look for A Hero for WondLa in bookstores everywhere in May of 2012.

Love the name ‘New Attica’ it sounds familiar and new at the same time, which is how I think of the feel of Wondla.
YAY!!! This is so exciting! The book sounds amazing, and what a great title! I can’t wait to see the cover!
Also, May of 2012 is perfect…maybe it will be one of my High School Graduation presents! Once again, Yay!!!

i absolutely love the search for wondla and i cannot wait for the other books! its so fantastic and i love the whole concept of it!
Our whole family loves Spiderwick and Wondla! Thanks for your works, but I have a tangential question: is that a Chip Kidd edition of Brave New World on your desk? If not, who designed it (if that’s what the book is)?
Hi Damon,
That is a copy of BNW on my desk, but I am not sure of the designer. It is down in my Florida home, so I’ll have to check when I return in the spring. It is also a current edition, so your local bookshop should carry it.
Hi my name is Twyla and I am 9yrs old and live in Christchurch, New Zealand. I loved your first book and am waiting for the next one. I keep going in to the shops to see if it is there.. I can’t wait! I got your book for Christmas and I read it in about 2 days. Please write lots more. thanks
Thank you Twyla. If you keep reading’em, I’ll keep writing’em:)
I am really excited about there being another Wondla book. The first one was amazing! I hope this one will be as exciting. My 10th birthday is May 2012, and I’m asking Mom and Dad to get it for my birthday. You are a very interesting author.
Sincerely,
Megan
Hi! ima huge fan of yours. im 14, and i have loved your books since i was a child. im extremely excited about the second book. i have followed you through the whole spiderwick series, and when i was a child, i loved the book The Spider and the Fly. and when i got The Search For Wondla, for Christmas, i exploded with joy! And when i finished, i couldn’t wait till the second book. and when i found out it comes out next January, i ran through the house like a little kid laughing with joy. P.s. I absolutely LOVE your art work! when i show people at my school my drawings, they ask me if im in advanced art. But actually, im not. i have never really taken an art class that has to do with Drawing. Oh! an will you be doing a book tour? if you are, PLEASE come to San Antonio!
Thank you for your kind words, Jessica. The few friends who have read HERO FOR WONDLA are telling me they like it more than the first book…we’ll see if you think so as well.
Hi, im Jessica, im a huge fan! Im from San Antonio, Texas. I am also 14 years old, and have loved your books. I cant wait till the second book! Oh! And will you do a book tour? If so, please come to San Antonio.

I am so glad to hear the second book will be out next year! Every trip to the book store my daughter looks for the next book, she read The Search for WondLa and loved it! It was her first “big kid” book, she’s 7. (I enjoyed it too and I’m 32!)
Remember my comment on Wondla Two? I have 1other question… Will Hero for WondLa have wondla-vision 2? I hope so, it was fun to do it in book 1.
And… hello again. May I suggest making a Wondla fan club?
Sounds Awesome cant wait for it to come out
Just finished reading The Search for Wondla and I wanted to thank you for such a beautiful story. It’s not very often I find myself in tears while reading a book in front of everyone on the subway. It’s a good feeling. Your story was fantastic. I cannot wait for the next.
Cheers
Oh my gosshhh!!
I LOVED the first book!!! I CANNOT WAIT
FOR
THIS
ONE!!!!
AHHHHHHHH!!!!
This is the BEST book I have read in a long time I find my self in tears when I get to the end. I can not wait for the next book
Hello! My name is Theodore, I’m 14 and I love reading your books. I adored the Spiderwick Chronicles, Kenny and the Dragon and the moment I received The Search for WondLa for Christmas, I just laid down in my bed and read, read and read until many hours past midnight. It was a wonderful book, I wish it had lasted for longer, and when I finished it, I must confess tears overwhelmed me due to what happened to Muthr… Yet I’m very excited about the sequel and can barely wait until May.
Btw, I noticed the “Brave new worlds” book by Aldous Huxley in the picture, I also read it- are you going to introduce parallel universes?
HI Theo,
Thanks for the kind words. I am glad you enjoyed not just WONDLA, but my other stories as well.
I (re)read BNW and 1984 in preparation for creating a utopian future civilization in HERO. Of course, there are nods to both of those classics in my story. I hope you like it:)
Wowzaz, I’m so happy! I’ve been waiting for this forever; the cliffhanger was horrendous. Do you know how many people you have brought very close to sudden death by heart attack and/or anxiety?? I loved the first book and made my siblings read it too so we’re all waiting for it. MAY??!!! that’s like, ages and decades and millenniums away, and, and, and….I’ll wait patiently. (Where’s a paper bag?) Too much excitement for one night!
I loved the first book and the spiderwick chronicles, so i know i’m going to love this one!!!
Hero comes out in only seven days! Ordered it back when it came out on pre-sale, but then found out about the book tour–so I might just have to get my copy before going to the reading (the first one is about a two hour drive from where I live, but I’m going to try to make it there anyway, the series is just so great!)
Search for WondLa is definitely one of my most favorite books ever, by one of my favorite authors ever–your art is so amazing too, Tony! Can’t wait to get the second book
Thank you, Sam. I hope you find it was worth the wait:)
Picked up the second book not realizing there was a first (until about 20 pages in haha) and read it in two days. Going to pick up the first, and am so excited for the third to come out. Wonderful book! Great job
I LOVED the second book. When should the other book come out?
Dear Tony D:
Like I said in my other comment, I really loved your book. It was very original.
One question, the book said that you were the illustrator of the pictures. Did you actually draw it? And, if you did, well, you did an amazing job. Believe me, I don’t think nobody could be more original than yourself. You’re like a legend.
Thanks. Yes, I did draw all the illustrations for the WondLa books. You can see more of my art here: http://diterlizzi.com/home/art-gallery/
…WondLa 3 is due out next fall…
