It’s easier than you might think to learn 3d, and there are even lots of different freeware out there for you to build your skills up for free. (such as blender), you can find online tutorials and even books in the store, I would encourage any aspiring artist to learn 3d, even if you don’t want to land a 3d career, you can still use 3d to help make 3d images, see the artwork at www.CgSociety.org, particularly this http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?f=137&t=420825 , The artist who created this image used a free 3d software package called wings3d.
I guess what I’m trying to say is that every artist can use some 3d know how, all it is, is a powerful weapon in your artistic arsenal.
